| PARAPLEGIC STUDENT PILOT SOLOS IN AIRBORNE TRIKE |

|
July 2, 2006
Shawn Okun, Dick Marshall and John Long Directors, of Float Planes and Amphibs in Sebring, Florida celebrated the successful solo of paraplegic student pilot, Jim Carlaccini at Sebring Regional Airport on July 2, 2006.
Jim's solo flight in a specially modified Airborne XT- 912, was as exciting as it was picture perfect. The solo flight culminated a long slow process that included significant modification to the Airborne XT-912. This Achievement was done with help from many other people, acknowledgments should also go to USUA and Dale Hooper, Aero sports connections (ASC), the FAA, and all of those that have supported us through this endeavor. |
Carlaccini, who was paralyzed in a sky diving accident, has dreamed of once again becoming productive in the work force, following a long period of disability he decided that to do this he wanted to become a flight instructor. After much research Jim decided that working as a flight instructor in a Weight Shift Controlled Aircraft he might be able to achieve this dream.
The solo flight occurred in calm, sunny conditions marked the first of many steps towards that goal. Jim intends to specialize in disabled pilot training and work from the home base of Float Planes and Amphibs, www.FPNA.com, at Sebring Regional Airport.
The fire engine red, Airborne XT-912, sports a 912-UL, ROTAX engine, glass cockpit and a Streak III Wing with the appropriate modification for Jim. |
